The venue is a European petite bar with South Coast feels, serving seasonal dishes inspired by French bistro cuisine. At Shoalhaven Heads, the on-site restaurant at Bangalay Luxury Villas specialises in native and local ingredients. Enjoy a delicious dinner, then retire to glamorous villas overlooking the golf course, just next to beautiful Seven Mile Beach. The produce is the freshest you’ll taste, and the focus on paddock to plate showcase all the flavours of the Shoalhaven. You can even take some local ingredients home with you or grab some presents for your friends from our villages. Or wander the growers and makers markets on Thursday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday mornings.
First-class romantic wineries
Try the new season’s vintage at a luxurious winery on your couples retreat with many cellar doors throughout the region. There are many places you can wine, dine and stay. Begin your wine adventure at Silos Estate near Berry. Dine inside a silo and spend the morning getting to know the alpacas and other farm animals. Taste the award-winning 2011 Wollstonecraft Semillion at Coolangatta Estate, just a stone’s throw away. Seven Mile Beach is less than 5 minutes away, so cap off your wine trail with a dip in the sea. There aren’t many places in the world where you can be wine tasting one moment and then by the ocean just minutes later! Further inland is the picturesque Cambewarra Estate Winery, a boutique vineyard nestled at the gateway to Kangaroo Valley.
A bit further south, the charming country town of Milton is home to Cupitt’s Restaurant, Winery, Brewery and Fromagerie. The working vineyard produces award-winning reds like the Dusty Dog Shiraz. There is a boutique brewery for the beer-inclined, and the fromagerie serves up delicious cheese platters. At the end of a day of wining and dining, you can retire to the beautiful on-site accommodation, Cupitt’s Cottage. With plenty of country charm, the deck of Budawang Bar is the perfect place for couples to watch the sunset. Spend the night at Cupitts’ old stone cottage and then venture into the main strip of Milton. The town is home to plenty of excellent cafes and boutiques that offer up a variety of great souvenirs.
Calling all seafood lovers
Oysters are for lovers, and there’s no better place than Greenwell Point to enjoy these romantic morsels from the sea. This small fishing village is renowned for its seafood, with oyster farms and fresh fish readily available. Visit Jim Wild’s Oyster Service or grab some of the best fish & chips in NSW from Pelican Rocks Seafood before heading back to South Coast Retreat. Are you celebrating a birthday, anniversary or any other special occasion on your romantic couples retreat? Or maybe this weekend is just about taking the time to celebrate yourselves? Whatever the event may be, you can enjoy a taste of the Shoalhaven by grabbing a drink at one of our cool, small bars. The Ruse has a mean cocktail list and overlooks the picturesque Ulladulla Harbour; Wild Ginger’s alfresco happy hour is perfect for sundowners in Jervis Bay. Mollymook’s Gwylo restaurant offers a delicious Asian menu with modern and creative cocktails. The expert crew will take you out on a luxury catamaran and guide you through the pristine waterways. They’ll cook your meals and serve drinks along your journey so you can lay back and soak up the sun. May to November is whale watching season, so keep an eye out for some migrating humpbacks in the bay. These majestic creatures put on a show during their annual migration throughout winter and spring.
Romantic Coastal Walks
The Shoalhaven stretches over 150kms of coastline, so there’s always a beach nearby. Catching a sunrise over the coastline is one of the most romantic things you can experience in the Shoalhaven. Crookhaven Heads is an idyllic place to start the day, and you could begin your walk at nearby Culburra Beach. Jervis Bay is home to the Round the Bay Walk, an easy walk that’s minimum effort for the maximum reward! If you feel like more of a bushwalk, head to Gosang’s Tunnel in Abrahams Bosom Reserve. This stroll doesn’t require much hiking experience and takes you to the edge of the earth in about 30 minutes. Stop at Abrahams Bosom Beach on the walk back, where the breathtaking views are even better at sunset. Make sure to take a photo on your trek and #100beachchallenge!
Sensational Sunset Views
If you’re not one for early mornings, then opt for a spectacular sunset at one of the Shoalhaven’s fantastic vantage points. There are plenty of beautiful bushwalks on offer for all experience levels. In the north of our region, Bens Walk is easy to navigate. Located in Nowra, this track takes you along the beautiful Shoalhaven River and offers stunning views of Hanging Rock. Visitors who are exploring further south will want to embark on a walk through Morton National Park. For a light stroll, head on the Little Forest Walking Track that leads you to Florence Head. The end features stunning views of Pigeon House Mountain, the perfect way to end your romantic couples retreat!
