Sit back and relax with a hot cuppa in the Shoalhaven
Spend a morning in one of our cute tea shops with some delicious brews and decadent pastries. It's a particularly great way to escape to the great indoors on a cold or rainy day. If you're celebrating a special occasion then you can even take your game up a notch with a fancy high tea experience. We've gathered a list of our local hotspots, all waiting to brew up a fresh pot while you soak in all the holiday vibes.
Berry Tea Shop
This tea lover's paradise is nestled in amongst the many boutiques along the main strip of Berry. The friendly and cosy atmosphere is combined with a huge selection of interesting teas including Masala Chai, Organic Turkish Apple and South Coast Breakfast. The food menu also features an array of cakes and pastries that marry perfectly with the many tea options available. We are definitely suckers for tradition and our top pick here is a good old fashioned Australian Billy Tea alongside a plate of freshly bakes scones. Berry Tea Shop is quite the institution, with visitors travelling far and wide just to come and sample a taste from these fine tea merchants. So head into town for a bit of morning retail therapy and cap it off with a deliciously relaxing visit to this famous Shoalhaven tea house.
In the heart of Milton, you'll find Something's Brewing, a specialty tea shop where you can buy from a selection of over 130 loose leaf teas. This extensive range includes the decadent best seller, Crème Brûlée and even a few finely crafted house-made blends. The store is open to the public for all purchases but isn't currently a tea house where you can sit and have a cuppa. Make sure to grab a few packs of the cute and playful Flowering Tea Balls that have been hand curled into little bauble shapes with strings of flowers. It's a fun way to take your holiday tea experience home with you and enjoy amongst friends, with one ball making up to four cups of tea!
The Lookout Cafe
Pair your morning tea ritual with an epic view at The Lookout Café. Perched high atop Cambewarra Mountain, this tea spot boasts 145kms of spectacular panoramic views. On a clear day, you can even see all the way out to the ocean! Sit on the deck looking out at the green, rolling hills of Kangaroo Valley with some scones, pastries and teapots. Or head inside by the fire to one of the tea rooms if the weather isn't on your side for the day. Sometimes the staff pop out some bird seed along the balcony so you might be lucky enough to witness some flying beauties in all their glory right before your very eyes.
Cambewarra Estate Winery
Nope, you haven't read wrong! Yes, this is a winery! But at Cambewarra Estate, you also have the option of treating yourself to a luxurious high tea experience. This is a great way to gather a group of friends together for a special occasion or just simply catch up over some treats where nobody has to worry about catering! Available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and set amongst the picturesque vineyard, this has got to be one of the cutest and quaintest high teas ever. You'll feel like you've been transported to an Alice in Wonderland style tea party with whimsical vibes galore! Whether you're a small or large group, this Cambewarra highlight can host up to 60 people for this amazing high tea, just make sure to book in advance to avoid any disappointment.
Little Tree Café
Located inside the lovely Yatte Yattah Nursery, this garden café is surrounded by abundant, lush greenery. Order the staple tea and scones and relax on the spacious verandah which overlooks the grounds. The food menu also includes a few tantalising lunch options such as nachos and salmon and potato bake if you feel like having a more substantial feed. Make a day of it on this property, which is located just off Princes Highway near Lake Conjola. Green thumbs will adore wandering through the nursery, with an extensive bonsai collection, garden sculptures and decorative planters.
Coffee on the Double
Bet you've never sat down for a quiet cup of tea inside a converted, double-decker bus before! Located within Schutz Landscape and Garden Supplies in Tomerong, Coffee on the Double is a quirky cafe serving up a tea and coffee experience to really remember. You can grab your tea to take away and meander through the nursery, perch inside the bus or sit on the outdoor deck. The green surrounds are such a peaceful place to spend a morning and the village of Tomerong is just minutes away from the stunning waters of Jervis Bay.
Greendale's is an idyllic morning tea spot that really makes the most of its surrounding grassland. The cute, country cottage has seating along the front verandah and plenty of tables and chairs out the back. We highly recommend taking a seat outside on the grass so you can gaze out at the cows and maize crops that are just a stone's throw away. This Pyree venue just oozes a tonne of nostalgic charm and is also a great place to bring the kiddies too. Greendale's soft and fluffy scones continue to get consistent rave reviews and are an absolute must-try alongside your cup of tea. Make sure to also pay a visit to the café's neighbouring boutiques within Jindyandy Mill.
