Shadow play performance by Jumaadi and Michael Toisuta
In this series of short live performances, Bundanon’s Art Museum will come to life with rhythmic ocean sounds and a sequence of stories told through light and shadow.
Encompassing Javanese folklore, music and shadow puppetry, this short live performance explores our relationship with nature, history, colonialism and exploitation in the context of the ocean. Through beautifully crafted silhouettes, Jumaadi and composer Michael Toisuta present a contemporary take on wayang kulit, the traditional form of shadow-puppet plays that originated in Java and Bali.
