It’s hard to keep a great icon hidden, so the team from Elite Energy thought it was time to relaunch and revamp one of Australia’s most iconic off-road trail events, the Shoalhaven King of the Mountain. Established in 1966 by a small team of local running enthusiasts from the Nowra Athletics Club, this iconic event has seen thousands of runners make the journey over the iconic Mount Scanzi. In these early days, every runner was welcomed by freshly baked scones, jam, and cream from the local CWA ladies. So in 2020, just 54 years after the first KOM, they will launch Summit Shoalhaven. They’ve adjusted some the original courses to enable the event to be held while keep COVID-19 transmission risks to a minimum. The new event will begin and end at the Kangaroo Valley Golf Club, and incorporate a 60 kilometre, 45 kilometre, 28 kilometre, 13 kilometre and shorter events catering for the full spectrum of runners from elite to the weekend warrior.
