Family Memories in the making
Family memories of fun in the sun are something to be treasured. We all know too well how busy life can get. Especially when you have a family. It’s so important to take a break from the everyday and allow yourself some time to switch off. Even if it’s just for a couple of days. Hop in the car and head on an adventure. The kids will remember it for a lifetime. The southern reach of the Shoalhaven is the perfect place for a digital detox and to tackle the 100 Beach Challenge with your family squad.
Day 1
Paddock to Plate Breakfast
Family memories start with good food. Kick off the holiday with a delicious meal at the highly acclaimed wholefoods café Milk Haus. Beautifully nestled in the green, rolling hills of Milton, the eatery places a focus on fresh local ingredients. You can even see for yourself in the on-site kitchen garden. The main dining area is located inside an old cheese factory. It oozes warm and welcoming country charm. The kids will love getting the chance to spot the resident chickens and dairy cows that roam the nearby paddocks.
Stock Up Your Hamper with Picnic Goodies
Our region is bursting with delicious local produce, perfect for a family picnic. Make your way to the Wholefoods Store Milton. Peruse all the yummy organic and biodynamic fare. Select treats for your hamper like yummy roasted nuts, kombucha, cheese and crackers. Just a few steps down the road you’ll also find Flour Water Salt. You can grab a freshly baked loaf of bread as well as some scrumptious pastries for your sweet tooth.Â
Rest Your Head Close to Nature
Who doesn’t want to stay at a place where the motto is “relax, unwind and live longer”? Racecourse Beach Tourist Park is tucked away amongst the exquisite natural landscape of Bawley Point. The ideal spot for the family to settle in for the night. The park offers a wide range of accommodation options from camping and caravan sites to poolside cabins and deluxe beachside villas. The little ones will love catching a glimpse of local kangaroos hopping through the grounds. Or our beautiful surfing dolphins down at Racecourse Beach.
Day 2
A Spot of Fishing at the Beach
Wake up early and make your way down to the water for some fishing opportunities. Racecourse Beach is great for kids, who’ll love casting a line out from the beach for local Whiting and Bream. More experienced anglers might want to venture out by boat or book a private fishing charter for the chance to catch Snapper, Tailor and Jewfish in the pristine open waters.Â
A Family Picnic by the Water
Unpack your yummy picnic hamper down at Bawley Beach. Soak up the sun, surf and sand. Settle down at one of the picnic tables, lay your picnic rug on the beach or on the grass. Make sure to take your swimmers because the gentle waves are great for having a splash. Jumping off the jetty is always a fun experience too. Families who are wild about surfing will love to know that Bawley is known for its waves.
Take a Walk on the Wild Side
Really immerse yourself in nature by venturing into the lush bushland of Murramarrang National Park. Or head along the Pretty Beach to Pebbly Beach Walk. This walking track is an excellent way to get the heart rate up while also refreshing your soul. A day out in the wilderness truly does wonders for relaxing your mind. The grasslands around both beaches are usually filled with many kangaroos. It is the ultimate bush to beach experience. The walk is best suited for families with older kids. You can also just opt to visit each beach separately without doing the trek in between.
