Located North of Sussex Inlet, the St Georges Basin is the ultimate destination if you’re looking to soak up some serenity. The area is dotted with secluded beaches and waterfront locations that are great for a radiant summertime picnic. Picture you and the family, or that special someone, curled up on a picnic blanket with a swag of nibbles or a bottle of bubbles enjoying the warmth of the midsummer sun. Count us in! Furthermore, we recommend a day trip out past the basin shores to Garden Island, the definition of a secluded picnic spot. Additionally, grab lunch on the way over at The Pelican Waterfront Cafe. It’s a great restaurant in the area!
What’s more, the Corramy Regional Park is just a short drive from the basin and the perfect spot for a day trip filled to the brim with outdoor activities! Furthermore, whether you’ve brought your fishing gear with you or your kayak, it’s a great spot to immerse yourself in the region’s natural wonders. Created in 2010, Corramy serves as a guardian for local endangered wildlife and biodiversity. Furthermore, this spot is a favourite among locals who head over on the weekends for watersports, picnics, and to soak up all this natural gem has to offer! So why not make it your spot too on your next trip to the South Coast? It’s certainly got a lot to offer!
Keen to head out of the basin and explore more Shoalhaven has to offer? You’re just a short drive from many of the region’s iconic locations! Want a great beachside pub? Head to Huskisson Pavillion to soak up some sun, beach vibes and a few bevvies. Keen on a hike? Strap your boots on and head northwest to Conjola National Park. Furthermore, there’s a multitude of hiking trails to soothe your itch for a good walk. We recommend the Berrara Waterfall trail for a perfect scenic end to a peaceful walk, or the Health Circuit if you’re looking for something to get the heart rate up!
St Georges Basin is a large but shallow lagoon 27 kilometres south of Nowra.
The towns on the fringes of this broad waterway make an ideal base for anyone who enjoys boating and fishing. These towns include Sanctuary Point, Basin View, St Georges Basin and also offer easy access to the sheltered waters and beaches of Jervis Bay. Accommodation is also available at Erowal bay, Bream Beach and Wrights Beach.
Don’t miss exploring Conjola National Park, which has forests surrounding beautiful lakes and estuaries. Its large areas of woodland and heath become a mass of wildflowers in spring. The park is ideal for walking, bird watching, swimming, fishing and canoeing.
