Terara is situated on the south banks of the Shoalhaven River, three kilometres east of Nowra. It was the first settlement established on the south side of the Shoalhaven River, but two very large floods resulted in the town being moved to Nowra.
This small settlement is now predominantly dairy-oriented and has a collection of picturesque weatherboard houses – of which only a few remain.
