Our Favourite Places to Take the Kids

Family Activities in the Shoalhaven

Create unforgettable memories with the little ones down in the Shoalhaven. Our region is filled with plenty of adventurous and family-friendly activities that children of all ages can enjoy. So grab the kids, pack the car and take a break on the South Coast, the fun and games await!

Walk it Off

Pop on some comfy shoes and immerse yourself in nature on one of our many fun and adventurous walks. The kids will love exploring the bushland oasis at Bomaderry Creek. The walk provides incredible views of spotted gum forest, dry woodland and hanging swamps. You can choose between the 5.5km Walk One or the shorter 1.4km Walk Two, depending on how energetic the kiddies are feeling. Another local favourite is the Wreck Walk situated in stunning Abrahams Bosom Reserve. Stroll leisurely along on this easy track and the entire family will be able to catch a glimpse of the S.S Merimbula shipwreck. This is a great piece of Australian history for the kids to be able to witness. For a chance to feel on top of the world, head out on Granite Falls Walking Track in Morton National Park. The path leads to the amazing lookout where the little ones can look down onto the dense green valley underneath.

Sweet Treats

Does your young one have a bit of a sweet tooth? Because they will absolutely love sampling some yummy treats during your holiday. The kids will go crazy over our variety of child-friendly eateries – especially those that specialise in chocolate and lollies! The Treat Factory in Berry is a favourite pit stop amongst the kids and even offer chocolate making workshops throughout the school holidays. Not far away, you’ll find the Kangaroo Valley Fudge House & Ice Creamery, another delicious spot to sample some sweet treats. The fudge is an absolute must try, hand made the old fashioned way with love and passion!

100 Beach Challenge

The Shoalhaven is a beach lover’s paradise and we urge you to take the fam and tick some off your bucket list. Log onto our 100 Beach Challenge and spend the day soaking up the sun, sand and surf. Moona Moona Creek Lagoon is an excellent swimming spot thanks to its calm and quiet water. Or pack a hamper filled with delicious local produce and set up a picnic down at Bawley Point or Narrawallee. If you’re planning an adventure in Booderee National Park, a long time family favourite is secluded Green Patch Beach which boasts beautiful white sand.

Kid-Friendly Cafés

Keep the whole family’s energy going by filling up on some delicious food. A fantastic child-friendly dining option for younger kids is the Dish and the Spoon located in Nowra. The dedicated children’s play space here is called the Family Room and is filled with a number of toys and activities to keep the teeny tikes entertained. Another family friendly eatery is the Shoalhaven Heads Bowling Club, where the indoor play room is filled with fun games like a pinball machine and the outdoor space and even host a jumping castle by request!

Play Amongst the Treetops

Get the heart rate going with Trees Adventure in Nowra. Kids older than 4 years can spend a couple of hours navigating through this treetop ropes course and zip lining experience. Climb as many courses as you can fit in your 2-hour session! Swing, climb, leap and fly through the lush green canopies and satisfy the entire family’s inner thrill seekers, we’re sure the parents will love this too!

The Great Indoors

The Shoalhaven is filled with incredible outdoor fun where we cater for those rainy and winter days too! Kick off the indoor adventures at the cinemas. The historic Huskisson Pictures is a great place to relax, unwind and hide out for a couple of hours. The cinema building was constructed in 1913 and has been screening movies since the 1950s. For a barrel of laughs and some healthy competition, try some ten pin bowling at Shoalhaven City Lanes in Nowra or Dunn Lewis Centre in Ulladulla.

Explore Your Wildside

A trip to Shoalhaven Zoo is guaranteed to put a huge smile on the kid’s faces. Get up close and personal with over 100 species of animals including lions, koalas, monkeys and wombats. Take advantage of feeding times where the experienced handlers will help your children hand feed the cute and cuddly creatures! Enjoy exploring the lush surrounds and head out on the Hanging Rock Walk. This walk starts near the dingo enclosure and takes you through the magical rain forest. Alternatively, walk the Adventure Trail which is a little bit more demanding but an excellent track for older kids.
