WHAT TO DO IN Jervis Bay NSW
Discover the secrets of the bay by taking to the water on a dolphin and whale watch cruise, or explore the bay at your leisure by kayak, boat or paddleboard. From May to November whale watching is a must do, as the whales use Jervis Bay as a place to regroup, rest and play before continuing on their migration along the coastline. There are resident pods of dolphins living in the bay and there is a good chance you’ll see them on at least one occasion during your stay. Did we mention their fur seal neighbours?! Jervis Bay offers up some of the best diving in Australia due to the clear water visibility and the range of marine life and unique geological formations.
On the land, Booderee National Park is jointly managed by the local Aboriginal Wreck Bay Community and will give you an incredible insight into rich Aboriginal culture and land practices as well as some of the most scenically beautiful settings in Australia. A visit to the botanic gardens at Booderee is also a must do on your visit. The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum, home to the Lady Denman Ferry in Huskisson makes for a great day out. Take a tour through the museum, feed the fish at the pond, take a walk along the mangrove walk or shop and admire the craftmanship in Laddie Timbery’s Aboriginal Art Gallery inside the complex. Huskisson offers plenty of quality cafes and restaurants, as well as vibrant bars for a cheeky cocktail.Â
There is lots of accommodation from top-of-the-range holiday houses and bed and breakfasts to motels, tourist parks, holiday cottages and even a glamping resort. No matter where you base yourself in Jervis Bay, there is so much to see and do that you will find yourself returning time and time again to this magical place in Australia.
