WHAT TO DO IN North Nowra

The Nowra Golf Club sits on the banks of the Shoalhaven River at North Nowra. The Golf Course is bound between the Shoalhaven River and the escarpment creating a unique and picturesque scene. Some of the tees have even been cut into the escarpment providing unique golf holes and tees high above the fairways with river views. A little further along the riverbank you will find the Shoalhaven Zoo and Trees Adventure. The Zoo is home to over 100 species of native and exotic animals from echidnas to white lions and runs over 16 kilometres of native bush- a must do on your family holiday. The Trees Adventure, located directly behind the zoo will get your blood pumping with a series of challenging rope courses set up high in the treetops. While you’re up there take in the birds eye view of the Shoalhaven River.

Travelling through North Nowra the drive opens out to the charming village of Tapitallee and the plateau of West Cambewarra, home to skilled artisans and local wineries. An inspiring round trip from here is a visit to Bundanon – gifted to the nation by artist Arthur Boyd and his wife Yvonne and housing an excellent collection of his works. Inspiration for Boyd’s paintings can be easily seen on the drive to the property, and once there some interesting bushwalks take in local Aboriginal sites of interest. Nearby is Riversdale, the Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre. Situated with commanding views over the Shoalhaven River and with a modern award-winning building designed by Glenn Murcutt, the centre provides experiential learning for schools and residential study programs. Bundanon is open to the public every Sunday from 10.30am to 4pm. Accommodation in North Nowra is available through self-contained holiday homes.
