The weather is cool but the Shoalhaven is on fire with plenty of holiday events and activities
Need some help planning the perfect escape for the little ones these school holidays? We've got a variety of things happening during the break that will keep the kids entertained for days from bushwalks to chocolate cooking classes!
The Shoalhaven is an awesome place for adventures! At Jervis Bay, you can book a cruise to meet whales and dolphins, an awe-inspiring sight for the entire family. There’s also the option to team up with a guide from Jervis Bay Marine Park and explore the mangrove forests and ramble along the rocky shores of Huskisson. You don't even need to book these walking tours, just meet up here! Over in Nowra, Trees Adventure's KidZip is always a favourite school holiday activity. Here your little adventurer spends 2.5 hours with an instructor, navigating their way between the rocky cliffs and trees along the Shoalhaven River! Courses are suitable for kids 4 years old and up, offering a variety of skill levels. There's something for the whole family to enjoy, even the folks! Mini adventurers don’t need to miss out either. Children aged 4 to 7 can also tackle the lowest of courses at 2m high, while the adrenaline junkie teenagers can safely dangle up to 20metres high on the trickiest of levels! For a fun 4WD adventure, book a tour on a very cool tractor-bus with Bishops Bigfoot Adventures. The Bigfoot Tractor will take you on a spectacular and thrilling 1000ft climb up Mount Coolangatta, where some of the best views of the South Coast can be enjoyed as a family. Can’t get enough of the outdoor adventures? Check our Bushwalking with Kids blog for some awesome inspiration.
Lots of hands-on fun plus a little something to take home is the order of the day for these holiday workshops and classes. At the famous Berry Treat Factory, the Bean to the Bar Children's Chocolate Workshop will give your little chefs the chance to learn all about chocolate, taste different types of flavours and create a unique treat to indulge in at home. Classes run for one hour and are best for kids aged 5 and older. For children who prefer to stay out of the kitchen, they can explore a whole range of textures and processes at a creative arts workshop with our local artists and teachers. House of Jules in Milton has a full schedule of clay work, drawing, painting and more, This Old House in Milton offers up lessons on macramé, how to make beeswax wraps, wreaths and even pour paint! Meanwhile, at the University of Wollongong Shoalhaven Campus, technical-minded kids can team up to build and race a remote-controlled robot at Project Bucephalus – Robo Camp. This one is designed for kids who are already familiar with LEGO® MINDSTORMS® or novices able to cope with a steep learning curve!
Sports and thrills
If your kids love trying new sports or taking their passions to new levels then this section is for you! In Nowra, the Shoalhaven PCYC has a holiday schedule packed with opportunities for kids aged between eight and 17 years to try boxing, archery, indoor soccer and more. (Check out the flyer). Berry Sport & Recreation Centre's Adrenalin Rush program is perfect for kids who love a thrill and want to step outside their comfort zone. Parents can relax as the kids stay busy with loads of exciting activities and games, such as the indoor climbing wall, giant swing and flying fox. The seaside town of Sussex Inlet is gearing up for their annual Family Fishing Carnival, running during the holiday break and the Sussex Inlet Aquatic Centre will also be hosting unlimited pool inflatable Ride and Play sessions for $8.30 per child.
The Stellar Performing Arts Drama Workshop - Magic Mystery is a fun, safe and stimulating environment to boost your child’s confidence and enrich their self-esteem. Over two days, the kids will learn drama skills such as improvisation, movement and voice (amongst many others!) and cap off the experience with a 10-minute performance. Bring the entire family along to watch the show! Nowra Players School holiday workshops are also back, including all sorts of fun and games centred around the art of performance. Students can participate in a drama class - featuring theatre sports and script work, a musical theatre workshop - where they learn to sing, dance and act along to classic hits and an introduction to drama workshop - perfect for newcomers to the entertainment sphere as it's filled with lots of games. For any little ones who are more interested in watching a show instead of being in one, head to the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre for Robot Song. This family show is joyful, full of hope and shows the journey of young Juniper's creativity that's ignited by a giant singing robot. The performance features cutting edge digital technology, startling animatronics and a beautiful original musical score. Budding musicians will also love visiting the Nowra School of Arts and test driving their Tuning In: Musical Education Classes.
