Point Perpendicular Lighthouse and Lookout

Point Perpendicular Lighthouse

Spend a day exploring Beecroft Peninsular, the majestic Point Perpendicular Lighthouse is the crowning glory on the tip of a towering headland. While there is no access to the inside of the lighthouse, the view from the grounds of the lighthouse alone makes this drive worthwhile.

The lookout is around 90 metres above sea level, making it perfect for spotting migrating whales during the cooler months as they migrate north, and you can also spot resident seals, white-bellied sea eagles and pelagic fish as they hunt in the rich seas below.

The light station was a major coastal light in a network of navigational aids operated and maintained by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. It has now been replaced by a new lighthouse, but the building remains and is of historic significance.

The gravel road to the lighthouse may deteriorate during bad weather and at times the road is closed because of Naval gunnery training exercises.
